Imagine car body shells weren’t assembled out of hundreds of single pieces but only a one piece body shell, made possible by highly modern, textile structures. Together with the Institute for textile machines and high performance textiles ITM at TU Dresden a conception car was developed that mirrors the current technical state of the institute. What is outstanding the most is the one-piece body shell, made possible by textile-reinforced structures in integral construction. In this project we were especially focusing on implementing realizable technologies and merging these usefully.

Status of the development

1. Node element

2. Tray – rib structure

3. Pipe profile with different sections

4. Spacer structure

5. Polar Orthotrop strengthened rotorstructure

6. Textile strukture- hinges

7. 3D-FKV-structure with integrated Insert

8. Cellular Struktur
Design process

Analysis
With help of CAD-prototypes the single piece body shell could be analyzed and optimized as to bring the specifications of the product in line with its ideal shape.

Lines
The curvated contours together with the alternating convex and concave surfaces give the car a dynamic, streamlined shape. The ergonomics are defined by the narrowing stern, the small rail gauge of the back axle as well as the small front surface.
